Natural Baby Care

We all love and cherish those new little angels that come into our lives. They are completely dependent upon us, and so it is imperative we do the best we can to love and protect them. Protection includes treating them with products that are as natural as possible. Their precious little skin is about 6 times thinner than ours, and very fragile. With that in mind we should do our best to insure they are not exposed to any unnecessary chemicals.

There is an excellent website Environmental Working Group. They have a database of over 80,000 consumer products they have tested for a variety of safety factors. Visit this site to gain the latest information on whether the baby products you are using are safe.

If you are watching your budget, and want to insure the safest possible baby wipes are used on your baby, here is an excellent recipe that costs next to nothing and takes very little time to make. Use cloth wipes with this home-made solution.
1 1/2 tsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil (yes, just purchase it from your grocers shelf)
1 1/2 tsp organic castile soap, or a very mild organic and all natural baby shampoo
12 ounces of pure water
(optional) 1 drop of essential oil – I like Lavender as it is very calming for baby
Pour all into a spritz bottle, and shake well. Spray on the cloth to wipe baby, and then be sure to wipe baby dry. Damp skin under a diaper is the leading cause of diaper rash.

If baby suffers from baby acne (due to hormones passing through the placenta during labor), cradle cap, eczema, diaper rash, or other such rashes, consider using Mama’s breast milk as the first remedy for healing. Mama’s milk is like liquid gold and very healthy for baby in so many ways. If Mama’s breast milk is unavailable consider using coconut oil. Coconut oil is naturally anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial.

And lastly, be sure to massage the Achilles tendons of your little Angel. The Yogis believe that by doing so from the time they are infants until around the age of 2, you will help your child develop a photographic memory. It is therapeutic touch and is very beneficial for the baby whether they develop this ability or not.
