June 2016 Yogatan

We had another wonderfully successful Yogatan Festival this past weekend.  We have been holding this event since 2011, and it just keeps getting better and bigger every time.  A huge thank you goes out to: Elly Smith, Christeen Etches, Michele Rauter, and Carla White for joining me as Instructors for this fine day.

June 2016 Yogatan

We had 30 people participating in this June 2016 Yogatan.  So much amazing energy was created with each yoga session along with the Nada Yoga performed by Phyllis Anne Petty on her Tibetan bowls.

We were pleasantly surprised to have both Canal 27 and Diario Roatan arrive for interviews and pictures to be shared on their news programs, on TV as well as on the internet.  I love that this event is getting local exposure and I am hopeful this exposure will bring even more islanders and mainlanders to join us for our next yogatan.

Healing Circle Meditation

Healing Circle Meditation

The last session of the day was a very powerful Guided Healing Circle Meditation.  Every one in the room partook in the chanting of Ra, Ma, Da, Sa, Sa, Say, So Hung, while five people at a time took a turn lying in the center of the circle to experience the healing energy.  This healing meditation is used to pray for healing energy for our friends, family, and ourselves.  This mantra taps into the energies of the sun, moon, earth, and the Infinite Spirit to bring deep healing.  We focused our meditation to send healing energy to anyone in the room, others we wanted to project the healing to, and to Gaia, especially the mangroves next to Upachaya.

We ended the day with a fun raffle with some outstanding gifts, all donated by the Instructors, and La Pina Spa.

It was great to expand our Yogatan Festival this year to include Nada Yoga, that is the Yoga of Sound, the yoga of deep inner listening.  We also offered a class on the 8 Limbs of Yoga.  A lecture series which focused specifically on 2 of those limbs, the Yamas, and Niyamas.  There was solid interest in continuing with this series, so stay tuned for the next scheduled session that will be coming before the end of June.

Thank you again, for all the wonderful participants, for without you this event would not be what it is.  It warms my heart to host this event here at Upachaya Eco-Lodge & Wellness Resort each year.  Upachaya is a Sanskrit word for “growing and improving”.  Upachaya was built with the vision to be a place where people could come and grow and improve however they defined that to be.  This event, does just that!
