FLY FISHING

Fly fishing at Upachaya

Anglers in awe…this is the experience you are going to have at Upachaya for fly fishing.

Although the island is less known for its fly fishing than for scuba diving, snorkeling and kayak activities, make no mistakes about how significant this unique location is for catching bonefish.

Five minutes from our docks you can be standing in beds of sea grass with one of our expert guides who will show you the finer points of salt water bonefish casting. These are fighting fish, skittish and cautious. But the sea grass beds are full of their primary source of food - crustaceans.

As you place your cast strategically in front of your fish, consider a shrimp or crab pattern. We suggest a 9 or 10-weight rod as they average 8 to 12 pounds and larger ones over thirty pounds can also be found !  Even though tarpon is not readily found, they can also be targeted in season.
